1) Where is the animal shelter located and how much are adoptions?
The Midwest City Animal Shelter is located at 7221 N. E. 36th St. That is between Midwest Blvd. and Sooner Road. Our adoption fees are $40 for cats and $45 for dogs. These prices include the spay/neuter and a rabies vaccination for your new pet.
2) How long are animals held at the shelter?
Stray animals are held for 48 hours before being adopted. Owned animals (tagged or micro chipped) are held for 5 days before adoption. Surrendered animals are available immediately.
3) How many animals can I have in Midwest City?
You are allowed to have three animals total. This includes dogs and cats.
4) I have an animal that I can no longer care for or has passed away. What should I do?
Our Animal Welfare Division offers two ways to donate animals. You can bring the animal to the Shelter or we can send an officer to your home to pick up the animal. There is a $15 fee for each animal donated.
5) How can I get a live animal trap?
Midwest City Animal Welfare offers to set live animal traps for citizen’s at no cost. There are three types of traps: skunk/opossum/raccoon traps, cat traps, and squirrel traps. Call on Monday mornings, and a trap can be brought to your house for the remainder of the week.
6) What are your hours of operation?
Our hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 8 am to 6 pm. If there is an emergency (injured animal or animal bite) call 9-1-1 and an officer will be dispatched to help you.
7) Can I have an indoor-outdoor cat in Midwest City?
The City’s ordinances consider any cat that is not confined in a fenced in yard or on a leash is a nuisance animal. If it is a stray cat, a live animal trap can be borrowed from the city to catch it. If you are feeding the cats, they are considered
your cats.
8) Can I have anything other than a cat or a dog?
Yes, but most other animals require that a permit be issued. You can get a permit through City Hall at no cost. When it is complete, return it, and an officer will come to inspect the property. When you return a signed permit to City Hall, it is good for a year.
9) Can I have a poisonous or venomous animal in Midwest City?
No. City ordinances do not allow any exceptions for venomous or poisonous animals.
10) Is there a City tag for my animal and are they required?
Yes. We can issue City tags of identification, and they are required by our ordinances. Tags for male animals and females that are spayed are $2. Tags for intact female animals are $4. Bring rabies vaccination records to the Animal Shelter and a tag can be issued.
