In 2003, the City of Midwest City, acting with and through the Midwest City Memorial Hospital Authority, a public trust, partnered with Sooner Investment Company to redevelop this highly visible tract of land.
The Downtown Redevelopment Project, as it is known, encompasses approximately 83 acres of land fronting Interstate 40, east of Air Depot Boulevard and South East 29th Street. This area is directly north of Tinker Air Force Base.
The redeveloped area, called Town Center, includes a retail complex for the area that consists of a "New Urbanism" look and feel, anchored by large-scale traditional retailers, along with restaurants, shops and smaller retail out parcels. The primary objective of the redevelopment is to create a high intensity, predominantly retail development that will enhance the image of the community and provide an attractive town center element that will stand the test of time.
