The Midwest City Bomb squad is a nationally accredited bomb squad through the Department of Justice.
It is comprised of 4 certified bomb technicians who have completed the 6 week certification course provided by the Hazardous Devices School and the Federal Bureau of Investigations at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.
Bomb technicians are required to maintain physical standards which allow them to perform the rigorous tasks associated with being a bomb technician.
They are on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year and are expected to respond within minutes of notification. Technicians are required to recertify every 3 years, to remain proficient in all aspects of Improvised Explosive Device recognition, and to render safe procedures.
Technicians are required to train 16 hours each month. During training, technicians work with live and inert explosives. Each technician on the Midwest City Bomb Squad is robot certified which entitles them to operate the robot in any situation that might present itself, whether it be Explosive Ordnance Disposal, assistance to the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, or the Hostage Negotiation team.
The Midwest City Bomb Squad works closely with other Metro and Federal agencies. Since the 1970’s, the Midwest City Police Department has provided the citizens of Midwest City with qualified personnel to mitigate the hazards of explosives and the effects of explosive detonation. With each passing day a new trend emerges, and you can expect the Bomb Technicians of the Midwest City Police Department to be prepared and ready.
