Property & Evidence

The Midwest City Police Department Property and Evidence Manager is responsible for receiving, storing, tracking and disposing of all property and evidence at the police department. Property is released by appointment only, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Property and Evidence Room is closed for lunch and on major holidays. Appointments can be made by calling 405-739-1333. A valid driver’s license or government identification card is required for all property release.

Release of Property


Property will only be released to the owner of that property. Proof of ownership may be required prior to the release of property. If you are having someone else pick up your property, your designee must have a legal notarized statement from you authorizing him/her to pick up your items, as well as a valid driver’s license or government identification card. You must notify the Property and Evidence Manager in advance of your appointment that someone else will be picking up your property for you.

All property being used as evidence must be approved for release by an officer, detective, prosecutor, and/or judge. All evidence is stored in a safe place until it is no longer needed in a case. If you have questions about your property being held as evidence, contact the detective or officer involved with your case. (It is advised to first phone the officer or detective assigned to your case before setting up an appointment to obtain your property to verify that your property has been authorized for release).

Safekeeping Property


Safekeeping Property is an item that is being held for the owner by an officer. This may be property that was in your possession when you were arrested or items left behind at an accident scene. The Property and Evidence Section may dispose of this property if unclaimed after 90 days.

When lost property is recovered and turned into the police department, every reasonable attempt will be made to identify and return the property to its rightful owner. In many instances property is recovered but never reunited with its owner because there was never a report filed. 

Property which is authorized for release and which is not claimed will be destroyed, auctioned, or converted to city use in accordance with department policy. If you receive a Disposal Notification from the Property and Evidence Section you will have 30 days from the date on the notification to claim your property.
