Permits are required prior to the installation of storm shelters and safe rooms. If the storm shelter or safe room is being placed in an area other than the garage or residential structure, a site plan showing the proposed placement of the storm shelter or safe room is required. Storm shelters and safe rooms may not be placed in a dedicated utility easement or in front of the front or side building lines. Underground storm shelters may not be placed in a floodway or floodplain Please contact Lora Gwartney, 405-739-1265, or Kellie Gilles, 405-739-1223, to help determine an acceptable location for your storm shelter or safe room. We are available to meet you on-site to help determine the best location.
Applications can be submitted to the Community Development office located on the second floor of City Hall at 100 N. Midwest Blvd., Midwest City, OK 73110 or via the application link below.
After your storm shelter or safe room has been installed, please call the Community Development office at 405-739-1210 for an inspection. You may also submit your storm shelter/safe room registration form to the Community Development office after the installation.
