City providing S.E. 15th ST construction update

As our citizens are aware, the City of Midwest City (City) and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) entered into agreements a few months ago to conduct extensive street widening and intersection redevelopment along two primary areas on S.E. 15th St.

Both projects are considered City projects with ODOT serving as the administrator because of the federal funding being used.  Additionally, ODOT presents the bid opportunity to potential contractors as well as awards the bids to the successful contractors.

Today, during a conversation with a representative from ODOT, we received a status update on both the Lynn Fry Road – Anderson Road project (Project I) and Johnson ST – Midwest Blvd. project (Project II).

The ODOT representative said that Project I is going very well and is currently on schedule.  The area just east of S.E. 15th ST and Anderson Road is closed due to the construction of a new drainage structure under S.E. 15th ST.  The estimated time for street closure at that location is 45 days.

Project II is currently in the 104th day of 180.  Updates include the opening of the northern most lanes to east-west traffic and the closure of the southernmost lanes, which will be removed and new asphalt and concrete laid.

According to the ODOT representative, the intersection at S.E. 15th ST and Midwest Blvd. has experienced some delays due to solving drainage issues and the removal or moving of water and gas lines.  Now, the concrete forms have been built and the proper grading of the dirt will resume.

There has been confusion with some residents regarding the street closing at S.E. 44th and Anderson Road.  That area is not in Midwest City, but in Oklahoma City.

The City of Midwest City wants to thank its residents and businesses for their patience in dealing with inconvenient road closings and detours.  It is the hope of the City that once the projects are completed, they will provide a safer, smoother and more convenient means of travel in and around Midwest City.
