Vaughn Sullivan Selected as an APWA OK Top 10 Public Works Leader of the Year

Vaughn Sullivan APWA Award

Midwest City’s Public Works Director Vaughn Sullivan was recently selected as a Top 10 Public Works Leader of the Year by the American Public Works Association Oklahoma Chapter (APWA OK). The award was presented to Sullivan at the May 28 City Council meeting by Brandon Huxford of the APWA OK.

The APWA Top Ten Public Works Leader of the Year program honors excellence and dedication in public service by recognizing career service achievements of individual public works professionals.
As Director of Public Works for Midwest City, Sullivan provides leadership for the streets, drainage, water and wastewater plants, line maintenance, sanitation and stormwater. In addition, he has oversight of the parks including the golf course, as well as the Visitor/Welcome Center and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

In his award nomination, Sullivan is described as a professional who elicits the best from his staff by setting expectations. His direct reports are “some of the best employees” in terms of helpfulness and having a great attitude.

Sullivan served as the city’s community services director from February 2000 to September 2016 when he was named public works director.

He has a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration and holds a Class D Water and Wastewater license from the Department of Environmental Quality.

He has been chairman for APWA OK and was president of the state chapter. He also served on the Board of Directors for the City Management Association of Oklahoma.

Sullivan currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan City First Tee, whose mission is to impact the lives of young people through the game of golf. He is also a worship leader and elder in his church.
