Residents Reminded Not to Flush Wipes

Wipes clogging sewer pipes

With the increased use of sanitizing wipes, we are seeing more wipes in the City’s sewer system.  We wanted to remind our residents that even if a product says it is "flushable", unless it is toilet paper, it should not be flushed. This includes:

  • Diapers (cloth, cotton, disposable, or plastic)
  • Flushable, disposable, cleaning or baby wipes
  • Paper towels, cloth towels or any type of rag
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Facial tissues
  • Cotton swabs
  • Dental floss
  • Bandages
  • Cigarettes and cigar tips

Putting these items down toilets may plug sewers and cause raw sewage to back up into your home.  Please make sure to dispose of all wipes and products from the list above by putting them in your trash.
