City View E-newsletter April 2017

REGISTER FOR OUR PUBLIC NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

Have you registered for our Public Notification System called MWC NOTIFY? Have you recently moved but not yet updated your address in the system?

The Public Notification System allows us to notify you in the event of an emergency or important announcement. We are able to automatically add public landline phone numbers but if you have a private landline number, or if you only have a cell phone, we won't have your number in our system. Registering for MWC NOTIFY allows us to notify you about a potential safety hazard, health threat, flooding, gas leaks, or police activity. If you choose to opt-in, you can also be notified about community events, street closures, and public meetings.

When you register, you can choose to be notified via text message, email, call to your cell phone or to your landline. Make sure to keep your address current so you are notified of issues that impact only a specific area of the city.

SAVE YOUR SEWER PIPES!

Did you know this is what "flushable" wipes can do to your sewer pipes? Avoid a messy sewer backup. If in doubt, toss them out!

Here's a brief video produced by Consumer Reports that demonstrates that flushable wipes don't breakdown, even after their lab tried to break them down for 10 minutes.

VETERANS DAY PARADE IS NOVEMBER 12

Our annual Veterans Day Parade is Monday, November 12 at 10 a.m. This year's parade includes more than 65 entries and features a Warbirds flyover. The Grand Marshal is Gary Banz and the emcees are Abigail Ogle and Jessica Shambach from KOCO TV.

The parade route begins at Century Blvd and S.E. 15th St, travels east to Douglas Blvd and goes north to Reno Ave. The parade ends at Morris McGee Dr. and Reno Ave.

Here's something new this year! We will be giving away FREE parade t-shirts to the first 200 people to sit in the reviewing stands located in the background of our KOCO Channel 5 partnership broadcast. Everyone sitting together and wearing their parade t-shirts will give our parade a great presence on television!

KNOW BEFORE YOU FLY

There's always a risk that any object in the air space could be ingested into the engine of a plane. For this reason, almost all of Midwest City falls within the five mile radius around Tinker Air Force Base that is a No Drone Zone. (Here's a short video that shows what happens when a drone hits an airplane.)

If you are thinking of buying a drone for yourself or for a gift, be sure to research in advance where you can fly them. You can find information at KnowBeforeYouFly.org.
