I have a drainage ditch on my development, do I have to improve it?
There are two classifications of drainage channels, Primary and Secondary. Primary drainage channels are those that are illustrated on the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) with a Floodway. All other drainage channels are Secondary. Primary drainage channels are not required to be improved, but may be required to be cleared and reshaped. Secondary drainage channels are required to be improved to contain the 100 year storm and are to be concrete lined. An easement is required for the Primary and Secondary drainage channel for the limits of the 100 year storm.
