What are the dangers of improper disposal?
Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes includes pouring them down the drain, on the ground, in storm sewers or discarding them in the trash. The dangers of such disposal may not be immediately obvious, but certain household hazardous wastes can contaminate septic tanks or wastewater treatment systems; harm children or pets and cause injury to sanitation workers. Pollution of our local creeks and streams occurs when the household hazardous waste is poured or dumped into our storm drains.
