Midwest City Announces New Hours for City Hall and Municipal Court

Midwest City 2023 New Hours

On Thursday, February 16, 2023, new office hours will take effect for specific City of Midwest City facilities and services located at 100 N. Midwest Blvd, including City Hall, Municipal Court and the Utility Customer Service Counter/Drive Thru. The new hours for these facilities will be Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

With this new office schedule, City leaders hope to better accommodate residents and customers who are needing services outside of traditional work hours. The extended hours Monday through Thursday will mean additional time to contact Utilities Customer Service, Engineering & Construction Services (licensing/permitting) and Human Resources, just to name a few. The extended hours at Midwest City’s Municipal Court counter will also be beneficial, aligning better with the weekly docket schedule.

“We’ve analyzed this closely, paying attention to peer cities who have made the same change, and we’ve found the benefits to the public are undeniable,” said City Manager Tim Lyon. “Our residents and customers working an 8 to 5 schedule won’t have to take time from their jobs to handle business they have with the City. This will help them manage it on their personal time.”

Lyon says that the benefits to recruitment and retention of employees also weighed heavily on the decision. The change creates an attractive work schedule for employees who have weekend plans, need to schedule medical appointments, need to travel for their kid’s activities or who commute throughout the week.

“The job market is changing rapidly and we have our fair share of competition,” Lyon added. “This is a simple change we can make that will help us continue to adapt, recruit applicants and retain our vital staff members.”

City leadership is considering this a pilot program. The effect that it has on doing business with the public and the effect it has on City personnel will be closely monitored. Understandably, there will be a bit of a break-in period as everyone adjusts to the change. Hours at other Midwest City facilities will not be affected by this change.
