Update On Storm Damage and Impact to City Services

At about 9 p.m. Monday evening a storm with high winds and driving rain hit Midwest City. Between that time and this morning, our 9-1-1 call center received 66 calls. Most of the calls were about downed powerlines. Damage to powerlines resulted in numerous outages around the city. OG&E estimates that we currently have 6900 homes without power. We do not have an estimate for power to be restored.

Here is what you need to know:

  • City hall and most other city facilities are without power and many are without phones. Thank you for your patience if you have trouble reaching our offices today.
  • You can reach 9-1-1 with any emergencies.
  • Tonight's council meeting has been canceled. All agenda items will be heard at the next council meeting on September 10 at the regular 6 p.m. meeting time.
  • Trash is being collected today. We are up righting the trash carts that have blown over, but we are not able to collect the trash that was lost from any blown over carts. The collection process will take longer today due to carts that are tipped over so if you do not receive your collection, leave your cart at the curb for collection tomorrow (Wednesday). (Please try to collect any trash that was blown out of your carts.)
  • Recycling is not being collected today because the recycling collection center is without power. Leave your cart at the curb and it will be collected tomorrow (Wednesday).
  • You can make a utility payment through the drive thru but the customer service offices are closed due to the power outage.
  • The municipal court offices are closed today. You can use the online system or call to pay a fine. To pay by phone call 1-800-444-1187; to pay online visit
  • paymidwestcity.com.
  • Last night street crews began putting up four-way stop signs at intersections throughout the city where signal lights are out. Many major intersections are being controlled by four-way stop signs. If you happen to approach an intersection with no stop sign or signal light, please respond as if a four-way stop sign was present.
  • The dog park has a fence that is down.
  • At this time, no special collection of tree limbs is scheduled. We have extended the hours for the Compost facility from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (except for Sunday and Labor Day). The compost facility is located at 7420 NE 36th and you can dispose of tree limbs there with no appointment.
