Outdoor Warning Devices - Storm Sirens
OUTDOOR WARNING DEVICES
Midwest City Emergency Management activates the sirens when tornadic conditions threaten the City, and for no other reason besides testing.
- If the sirens are sounding during a severe weather event, take shelter immediately, then seek additional information from inside your safe place.
- We do not sound an all-clear.
- Midwest City Emergency Management tests the outdoor warning devices every Saturday at noon unless there is a threat of severe weather at that time.
- Our siren activation system is encrypted, and we send multiple activation commands to each siren. This is why you hear multiple short whoops before the long, steady tone. It does not mean the sirens are damaged or malfunctioning.
- Sirens are intended to be outdoor warning devices. You may or may not hear them inside your home. Even if you do when we test on Saturdays, you may not during a storm due to wind noise.
- You need multiple methods to receive timely weather information. Do not rely only on sirens.
