Additionally, 90 trees will be available for direct-mail reservation, including Red Maple, Shadblow Serviceberry, White Dogwood, Witchhazel and Black Cherry trees. Reservations open at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 14, and will close as soon as each tree has been reserved (while supplies last, limited to 1 per household).
To reserve a tree, residents will need to visit the 2025 Tree Giveaway information page at midwestcityok.org and click the signup link. Reservations are first come first serve and are in very high demand. Interested residents are encouraged to access the site as soon as reservations open and complete the process quickly. A reservation is not made until the online form is completed.
New to the tree giveaway this year, the reservation system is now officially hosted through the Arbor Day Foundation. With this new partnership, Midwest City residents will find some advanced features for success and a very user-friendly experience. These features include a mapping tool that gives planting tips, helps residents plot the best location for planting and can even give estimated benefits in total energy savings, based on the planting location.
“This is an amazing partnership for Midwest City,” said Public Works Director Paul Streets. “Trees enhance the community by creating an enjoyable place to work and live. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, they benefit the health and sustainability of our neighborhoods, help keep our air clean and they support wildlife & pollinators. We are happy to join with the Midwest City Tree Board and the Arbor Day Foundation on this program. We’re looking forward to the positive benefits these trees will bring to our community.”
The tree giveaway is limited to one tree per household. Residents will be required to show proof of Midwest City residency. Residents who successfully reserve a tree will need to bring photo identification and a recent utility bill to the registration desk at the 2025 Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 26. Pick-up times will be assigned. The Registration Desk will be located in the Nick Harroz Community Center, 200 N. Midwest Blvd., only during the 2025 Earth Day Festival. Photo ID and recent utility bill addresses are required to match. Residents will also need a vehicle that can transport a five-gallon tree, approximately four to six feet in height. Everyone is encouraged to plant the tree within a few days.
The Midwest City Tree Board was created in 1980 to advise the City Council on its public tree initiatives. Members of the Tree Board include AJ Bailey, Christine Price-Allen, Aruna Abhayagoonawardhana, and Barbara Wilson. Meeting dates for the board are posted on the Agendas & Minutes page at midwestcityok.org. The public is welcome to attend.
Midwest City has been proud to be designated as a Tree City USA for 43 years! The Tree City USA program is a 44-year-old program managed by the Arbor Day Foundation.
