Adair Blvd. Active Transportation Corridor Project Completed
Midwest City, OK, August 23, 2024 - The Adair Blvd. Active Transportation Corridor Project, funded by a grant from the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) Air Quality Small Grant Program and matching funds from the City of Midwest City, was officially completed this summer in July. The $80,000 project, connecting Midwest City’s Original Mile to the heart of the Rose State College (RSC) campus, includes the creation of a dedicated traffic lane for bicyclists and pedestrians along Adair Blvd. The lane stretches from S. Air Depot to Hudiburg Drive.
ACOG’s grant provided $58,270 for the project, with the City contributing $21,730. Adair Blvd. is a heavily traveled access corridor for the Rose State College (RSC) campus. The initiative aimed to enhance the safety and accessibility of the corridor, while also promoting active transportation. Prior to the project, there were no options for pedestrians on Adair Blvd. This has been a long-time concern for residents of the area. Their requests for a solution that was also walkable helped make the project happen.
"Completion of the Adair Blvd. Active Transportation Corridor Project is significant for our community," said Brandon Bundy, Midwest City Engineering and Construction Services Director. "This project not only enhances the connectivity and safety for cyclists and pedestrians, it also provides a place for our residents to utilize healthier transportation options."
Being one of the first projects of its kind in Midwest City, completion of this active transportation corridor aligns with the City’s goals to promote and develop more walkable and bikeable corridors throughout the community. Future projects of this kind will continue to improve connectivity and recreational opportunities in Midwest City.
