Douglas Boulevard Improvement Project to Start on October 7

A project to improve Douglas Boulevard and the intersection at NE 10th Street will begin Monday.

Project Details

The project includes rebuilding the intersection, resurfacing Douglas and adding sidewalks from SE 4th to NE 10th as well as drainage improvements. Improved signal detection and updated pedestrian signals at Reno Avenue, Main Street and NE 10th Street will also be a part of the project, along with new striping at the intersection of Reno Avenue. 

Project Benefits

Benefits of the improvement project include an improved driving surface, alleviation of the ponding on the north half of Douglas Boulevard, a durable concrete surface, and shortened medians with less encroaching at the NE 10th Street intersection. Accessibility will also be improved with the new sidewalks on the east side of the street and new pedestrian crossings.

Construction Timeline

Construction is expected to take 180 days, depending on weather. The road will be open to the public throughout the project but there will be lane closures and drivers should expect delays.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will be managing and inspecting the project.

Cost of the Project

The cost of the project is approximately $2.7 million -- 80% of which will come from federal highway dollars with 20% matching local funding of just over a half million dollars.
