Mayoral and Council Candidate Filing Deadline is Dec. 8

Midwest City residents interested in running for Mayor or for City Council seats in Wards 1, 3, or 5, have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8 to file. Declarations of candidacy must be filed with the Secretary of the Oklahoma County Election Board at 4201 N. Lincoln Blvd. in Oklahoma City.

The Mayor of Midwest City serves a four-year term as an at-large councilmember representing all six wards of the city. Midwest City Councilmembers also serve four-year terms as representatives of their respective wards.

Candidates for each of the elections must be a qualified elector of the City of Midwest City, at least 25 years old, must have been a resident of Midwest City for at least one year preceding the election, and, for seats representing a specific ward, must be a resident of the ward for which they are filing. Mayoral candidates can live in any of the six wards.

If only one candidate files for any of the open offices, that candidate is elected and will take office in April 2022. If multiple candidates file, the candidate receiving a majority of the votes in the primary election on February 8, 2022, will be sworn in. If needed, a run-off general election will be held April 5, 2022.

Official results will be posted once they are certified by the election board. For more information about the city council or for a Midwest City ward map, please visit MidwestCityOK.org.
