On December 20, Sid Porter, 40-year veteran and the 16th Chief of Police for the Midwest City Police Department, announced he would retire effective January 3, 2024. Sid has served as Police Chief since October 2021 when he was chosen to replace retiring Chief of Police Brandon Clabes.

Before being named Chief, Porter served as Interim Chief for five months, as Assistant Chief for 11.5 years and in various other roles in his career with the MWCPD. Chief Porter is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the U.S. Secret Service Dignitary Protective Services Program, the FBI Drug Unit Commanders Academy and is a Police Science graduate from Oklahoma State University.

“Sid’s love for this community made him an easy choice to serve as our Police Chief,” stated City Manager Tim Lyon. “His energy and enthusiasm in this role have been a blessing to our staff and our residents. We wish him the best on his well-deserved and hard-earned retirement.”

“Like I said when I was named Chief, I’ve always felt that it’s an honor and privilege to serve the residents of this great community,” said Porter. “I have full confidence in my current team and I know that I am leaving this community in good hands.”

City Manager Lyon has named Assistant Police Chief Greg Wipfli as the Interim Chief of Police, effective immediately. Wipfli has more than 29 years of service with MWCPD. He currently oversees the Patrol and Support Services Bureaus and has served as supervisor in multiple divisions across the department. Like Porter, Wipfli is a graduate of Oklahoma State University having majored in Sociology and minored in Psychology. He also holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminology and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Wipfli was born at Tinker Air Force Base and grew up in Midwest City.
