Winter Weather Update

City Services and Closure Updates (10:45 a.m., Wed., 2/19/2025)
City Services
Trash & Recycling Collection:
- No recycling was picked up on Tuesday due to dangerous road conditions. If our contractor Republic Services can get out on Thursday, they will begin servicing Thursday's route. They are also asking residents to leave their carts at the curb until they are serviced and if necessary may work Saturday as well.
- Most of Tuesday's trash route was not serviced yesterday because we had to suspend solid waste operations due to treacherous road conditions. It is important that customers leave their trash at the curb until it's serviced. Provided we can safely collect trash tomorrow (Thursday, February 20) we will try to start picking up Tuesday's route as well. This will also be the plan for Friday, and if needed, we will send crews out on Saturday to collect any trash carts that were not serviced this week.
- Questions or concerns? Call (405) 739-1066.

Safety Updates
Fire Department:
- Use the appropriate footwear while clearing driveways and sidewalks. Snow-packed, low-tread shoes can leave you without traction, leading to slips and falls.
- If you do lose power and plan to use a generator, make sure you place it an appropriate distance from your home. Only use it if you can connect it safely. Make sure it is powered off and has cooled before refueling. A garage is not a safe place to run a generator.
- If you are using portable generators to power your home, please see the information linked here to stay safe: Generator Safety | Midwest City Oklahoma
- Do not use ovens or stoves as a source of heat.
- If you’re using space heaters, do not use an extension cord. Plug the space heater directly into the wall outlet. Make sure the heater is clear of all objects and will not come in contact with furniture, blankets, pillows, curtains, etc.

Police Department:
- Drive slowly and take your time.
- If you get stuck, stay in your vehicle.Call a tow service, call family or call friends for assistance.
- If you encounter someone who you believe is in a life-threatening situation due to the weather conditions, call 911.
Public Works - Street Conditions:
- Public Works continues to treat intersections and elevated sections of road, especially bridges, because everything refroze over night. If the road looks wet, it's actually ice...proceed with caution. Parking lots and any sloped surfaces are extremely dangerous.
- Stay home if possible.
- Neighborhood streets are very slick. If you must be out, please take your time and be careful.
- For safety purposes, please adhere to these simple rules when you see our crews working in Midwest City:
- Stay at least 100 feet (5 car lengths) behind our trucks.
- Try not to pass our trucks as they work.
- If your vehicle is stuck on a city street, do not stand in the street to flag down other drivers for assistance. City snowplows or trucks cannot stop to provide assistance. Stay in your vehicle and call a tow service, family or friends for assistance.
