Changes to Expect for 2021 Midwest City Tribute to Liberty
Midwest City, OK – Despite possible soggy conditions, Midwest City’s 11th Annual Tribute to Liberty will move forward this year in Joe B. Barnes Regional Park (Douglas Blvd. & Reno Ave.) on Sunday, July 4. Because some of the traditional event areas are saturated by this week’s storms, visitors should plan for a few changes to the festivities.
Tribute to Liberty will again feature family-friendly fun, food trucks, live music and fireworks. The main event area, including main stage, food and recovery tent, will be moved to the parking lot next to Rotary Pavilion and Spirit Playground. Music performances will begin at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Mayor Matt Dukes will welcome everyone between the performances. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m.
The first performance at 6 p.m. will be a tribute to the Andrews Sisters by Character Connection Co. The Andrews Sisters’ career hit its peak during WWII, making this a fitting patriotic tribute to kick off 4th of July celebrations.
Souled Out will follow at 7:30 p.m. bringing a fun mix of Pop, R&B and Classic Rock, with a big band sound. They will perform up to the fireworks program after dusk.
Because the plan has changed a bit, and because so much of the park is expected to stay wet through Sunday, we’ve put together some tips for families so they can better prepare to celebrate with us:
- Bring lawn chairs instead of blankets
- Park only on constructed parking surfaces
- Don’t forget sunscreen & bug spray
- Do not enter coned or reserved areas
- Have plenty of cold water
- Bring wipes/towels in case of mud
Though some areas will be reserved, public parking can be found any many locations around the park. This includes Happy Tails Dog Park/Joe B. Barnes pavilion on the west and Reno Swim & Slide on the east. Accessible Parking will be reserved north of Doug Hunt Softball Complex on Reno Ave.
