Ward 3 Councilmember Megan Bain Resigns
Ward 3 Councilmember Megan Bain has resigned from her position on the City Council for Midwest City. In a letter sent to Mayor Matt Dukes and fellow councilmembers, Bain expressed how much of an honor and privilege it was to serve, as well as how difficult the decision was to resign her seat.
“We appreciate Megan’s service on the council and to the residents of Ward 3,” said Matt Dukes, Mayor of Midwest City. “We know she will continue to be a hard-working advocate for the residents of our community.”
Former Councilmember Bain was elected on February 8, 2022 and was sworn in at a special meeting of the council on April 5, 2022. This was her first term representing Ward 3 on the council. Ward 3 encompasses large portions of central and eastern Midwest City.
The next opportunity for Ward 3 residents to select a new councilmember will be on February 13, 2024. The newly-elected Ward 3 Councilmember would fill the remainder of the unexpired term, not a full four-year term.
February’s ballot will already include candidates who file for election in Wards 2, 4 and 6. The filing period for all of the council seats will be set and announced by the city council later this year.
Until an election can be held, an interim councilmember can be nominated and appointed by the mayor and council per city charter and state law. The temporary appointment would require a majority vote of the council at an upcoming meeting.
