Council Opposes Proposed OK County Jail Location

At a Special Meeting on February 8, 2024, the City Council of Midwest City unanimously passed a resolution opposing a proposed location for the construction of the new Oklahoma County Jail. The location, 1901 E. Grand Blvd., is adjacent to the district lines of the Mid-Del School District and is adjacent to Midwest City’s neighboring community of Del City.

The resolution supports the efforts of City of Del City leadership and the Mid-Del School District administration. It states council concerns about negative impacts to public health and safety for residents of Midwest City whose children attend schools in the Mid-Del District.

No additional comments were made by the council regarding the resolution and it was passed unanimously without further discussion.

The approved resolution has been distributed to the Mayor of the City of Del City, the Superintendent of the Mid-Del District and the three County Commissioners for Oklahoma County.
