June 25 Midwest City Storm - Update 3 (6.28.2024)

OG&E Electrical Crews Repair June 25 Storm Damage On Midwest Blvd.

EXTENT OF JUNE 25 STORM DAMAGE

Midwest City leadership continues to assess the damage left by the June 25 severe storm that affected most of our community.  The extensive damage to electrical infrastructure in Midwest City has been the most challenging issue during our recovery. OG&E and their contractors are working tirelessly to make repairs and get power restored.

On Thursday afternoon (6.27.2024), City leadership viewed live drone footage of Midwest Blvd. between SE 15th St. and SE 29th St., where the heaviest damage occurred to power poles and lines. OG&E staff and contractors are posted throughout the mile stretch of closed road, working to replace heavily damaged infrastructure in the area. Even with these major challenges, OG&E has made remarkable progress. As of early Friday morning (6.28.2024) the outages were below 4% of OG&E customers in Midwest City, versus the estimated 45% that were without power shortly after the storm.

Storm debris will be the next challenge, as residents throughout Midwest City deal with downed limbs, whole trees that have been uprooted and other personal property that has been crushed by vegetative debris. It’s important to understand that it could take up to two weeks just to assess how much debris our community is dealing with.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to get their debris to the curb following Quarterly Bulk Waste Collection rules whenever possible. In all cases, residents should keep their vegetative debris separate from other accepted types of bulk waste. You can review the rules for Quarterly Bulk Waste Collection on Midwest City’s website, www.midwestcityok.org.

Other options to get rid of storm debris include hauling it to Midwest City’s Compost Facility (free during open hours) or to the East Oak Landfill (fees apply). Operation hours for the Compost Facility could be extended temporarily during the recovery. Updates and information about these services can be found at midwestcityok.org/news or under the “Storm Debris Responsibilities” banner linked at the top of our homepage.
