Storm Shelter
Storm Shelters and Safe Rooms
Permits are required prior to the installation of storm shelters and safe rooms. If the storm shelter or safe room is being placed in an area other than the garage or residential structure, a site plan showing the proposed placement of the storm shelter or safe room is required. Storm shelters and safe rooms may not be placed in a dedicated utility easement or in front of the front or side building lines. Underground storm shelters may not be placed in a floodway or floodplain. Please contact the Engineering & Construction Services Permits/Licensing Desk at 405-739-1210 or 405-739-1211. To help determine an acceptable location for your storm shelter or safe room, City staff can meet you on-site to help determine the best location.
After your storm shelter or safe room has been installed, please call Engineering & Construction Services (405-739-1210 / 405-739-1211) for an inspection. You may also submit your storm shelter/safe room registration form to the Engineering & Construction Services office after the installation.
